Casa di Santa Caterina is the birthplace and home of St. Caterina of Siena, who along with St. Francis of Assissi is a patron saint of Italy. St. Caterina was born in the house in 1355 and became a nun at eight years of age. She was renown for her good deeds and devotion to God. Hospital of Saint Maria of the Scale (Ospedale di Santa Maria Della Scala) Once a hospital and orphanage, this place of caring was built in the 800s. Today the grand building houses the National Archaeological Museum of Siena.
